Spoken Word | Hit the Ode

I’ve always been interested in literature and have been writing poetry/lyrics since I was around 15 years old. So, when my flatmate suggested we go and check out an open mic spoken word event in a local Birmingham pub, I was rather intrigued. Granted, the whole room smelt of weed (what can ya do with these arty farty types eh?) and a couple of the acts were more miss than hit, but overall it was a great experience.

Hosted at The Victoria  by compare Bohdan Piasecki and Apples and Snakes , the event attracted all sorts of people and provided an evening of truly electrifying poetry.

The stand out act for me, though, was headliner Paul Cree – his poetry was both funny and insightful. If you’re into poetry, spoken word or even hip hop culture, check him out here!

Have you ever been to any spoken word events? What open mic nights would you recommend? Let me know in the comments below!

Until next time,
